The objective
To create a space mission patch that serves as a commemoration for the company's first space launch, with the intention of producing it as both stickers and metal pins.
Ideation
Prior to initiating the actual design process, thorough research was conducted on existing space mission patches to gather inspiration. This research helped identify potential visual styles that could be incorporated. Multiple ideas were then sketched out and shared with the team for review and discussion, setting the foundation for the design phase.
Design
The design journey began with the creation of an illustration showcasing the satellite, specially crafted by the space team. The challenge was to strike a balance between simplicity for legibility in small sizes and capturing enough detail to establish its unique proprietary design. Once the satellite illustration was accomplished, different patch layouts were explored. Through a series of iterations, the design evolved and reached its final, polished state.
Prototype
The space mission patch design has been produced into different mediums, including metallic stickers and metal enamel pins. A test print was conducted at home using available metallic mirror sticker paper to evaluate its effectiveness and suitability before sourcing for vendors.
